Exosomes for Hair Restoration

The Hair Clinic Remuera — New Zealand leaders in advanced hair regrowth

Why choose us

At The Hair Clinic Remuera, we deliver evidence-based hair restoration with the latest regenerative technologies. Led by Dr Mark Morunga, New Zealand’s Key Opinion Leader for Exo-Grow®, our clinic has helped set national standards for safe, effective exosome-based hair regrowth protocols. Dr Morunga’s extensive clinical experience and training in regenerative medicine underpin every treatment plan we provide.

What are exosomes?

Exosomes are tiny, naturally occurring vesicles that cells use to communicate. They carry proteins, peptides, lipids and growth-factor signals that can calm scalp inflammation, support follicle health, and encourage a more active hair-growth cycle. In hair restoration, exosomes are used topically and/or delivered via micro-channels to influence the scalp environment where follicles live.

Benefits patients commonly report

  • Increased hair density and shaft thickness

  • Less shedding and slowed thinning

  • Healthier scalp with reduced inflammation/itch

  • More active follicles (improved anagen phase support)

  • Softer texture and natural shine

  • Early changes can include less shedding within weeks, with visible regrowth for many patients from 8–12 weeks of consistent use (per Exo-Grow guidance)

Results vary by pattern/type of hair loss, baseline inflammation, hormones, nutrition, medications and treatment adherence.

The Exo-Grow system we use

We offer Exo-Grow® by DP Dermaceuticals, a medical-grade programme combining:

  • In-clinic treatments (device-assisted delivery to optimise penetration and comfort)

  • At-home hair tonic and conditioner to maintain exosome signalling between visits

  • A structured protocol personally overseen by Dr Morunga for timing, dosing and combination therapy

Who is it for?

Exosomes can be considered for:

  • Early to moderate androgenic alopecia (male & female pattern)

  • Post-partum or stress-related shedding (telogen effluvium)

  • Inflammatory scalp conditions contributing to thinning (assessed case-by-case)

  • Patients wanting to enhance transplant results or maintain gains from PRP/PRF/GFC or medical therapy

Contra-indications/relative cautions include: active scalp infection, uncontrolled autoimmune disease, pregnancy/breastfeeding, recent isotretinoin use, and known sensitivity to any product component. We’ll review your history to ensure suitability.

Treatment journey & timeline

  1. Consultation — diagnosis, baselines, and plan

  2. Initial in-clinic sessions — typically monthly for 3 -6 months

  3. Daily at-home application — support signalling between visits

  4. Review at 12 weeks

  5. Maintenance — tailored to your response (e.g., quarterly)

Many patients notice less shedding within a few weeks; visible thickening commonly follows from 8–12 weeks, continuing to improve over subsequent months with adherence.

  • Exosomes after hair transplant — assist recovery and graft support

Safety & aftercare

Treatments are generally well-tolerated. Temporary redness/sensitivity can occur for 24–48 hours. Avoid harsh scalp products, heat styling and intense exercise the first day; follow your personalised aftercare plan. Contact us promptly if you experience unexpected discomfort.

FAQs

How is this different from PRP?

PRP uses your own platelets; exosomes are cell-derived vesicles rich in signalling molecules. Many patients benefit from using both for complementary effects.

Will it work for advanced baldness?

Exosomes can improve scalp health and miniaturised follicles, but areas with long-standing, fully lost follicles may need transplant. We’ll give clear expectations at consult.

How long do results last?

Ongoing maintenance is recommended. We’ll tailor a plan to help hold gains over time.

Is there downtime?

Minimal. Most people return to normal activities the same day.
